The Oaks at Salem | Apex Weddings | Katie + Matt
Ahhhh, y’all! I am SO excited to share Katie and Matt’s Wedding Day!! We had a beautiful day on Saturday at The Oaks at Salem and these two are seriously perfection! You can read more about how they met, how Matt proposed and why the choose The Oaks at Salem as their wedding venue below! Enjoy!!!
Katie and Matt first met in the 3rd grade at Olive Chapel Elementary in Apex, NC and began dating the following winter of their 11th grade year in high school, Matt went to Panther Creek and Katie went to Apex High. After High School Matt attended North Carolina State University where he studied Agriculture Business Management and joined Sigma Nu Fraternity. Katie headed to Wrightsville Beach to attend University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she studied Management and Leadership Development while joining Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Since college, both Raleigh and Wrightsville Beach have held special spots in their hearts; one of the main reasons Matt popped the question at Dockside Waterfront Restaurant & Bar at Wrightsville Beach. They have enjoyed the past 7 years more than they could have ever imagined and are looking forward to forever together!
Matt popped the question on the rooftop patio at Dockside Waterfront Restaurant & Bar at Wrightsville Beach after a long day trip to the beach and a couple of Miller Lites from the restaurant bar 🙂 he asked the girls sitting next to us to take a photo of us (because pics or it didn’t happen) and that’s when he got on one knee and proposed! I believe his exact words were “Katie, I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this – will you marry me?”
We asked Katie what they loved most about Matt and here is what they told us! “Wow – one thing? Matt’s ability to strike up a friendly conversation with anyone – anywhere. And while this is a quality that can get abused when you’re on a 9 hour car ride and he wants to call every relative in his phone, I still admire his love to talk. I also love Matt’s ability to see how things will pan out and how he plans for the future – this kid had a Roth IRA before he graduated college… who does that? As you can see he also took 7 years to propose, so… he’s a deep thinker. Matt is also very hard to make angry – believe me, I’m a girl and with that comes a multitude of emotions and he handles it like a champ!” Yay-They are such a great couple! Bill and I could totally feel the love between them!
Here is what Katie told us about her venue choice, “We love the feel of the Oaks & the character it has. Personally I (Katie) love being outside, I would sit outside at every restaurant if I could! The beauty of the grounds along with April’s infections bubbly personality and her drive to tell us everything possible about the venu within a 1 hr span of time made it the perfect place. The place comes equipped with a tent, a built in bar, and a bridal suite – can I live here!?! We also love the big oak tree and will stick with the outdoor and greenery theme throughout our reception.” I couldn’t agree more! The Oaks is one of our favorite places to photograph weddings!
