Yay!! It’s Wednesday and I have another FABULOUS wedding venue to share with y’all this week! I headed over to meet with Jessica at the Wakefield Barn in Wake Forest and ask her all about the venue and how they got started. I learned so much about this historic property and absolutely loved my time with Jessica! If you’re in Wake Forest, you definitely must go check it out!! Originally built in 1930, the Barn has been completely restored but has managed to keep all of its original charms! This venue is great for large weddings and events, or smaller gatherings like workshops and small photoshoots. We are so excited to shoot a wedding here!! How did you get started?

The Historic Wakefield Barn has a sister venue in Downtown Raleigh, Melrose Knitting Mill. So, I guess you could say that’s where it all started. Our owners have a great experience with event venues and we decided to bring our knowledge and customer service expectations to Wakefield to open up a venue that highlights the beauty and serenity of a Barn venue.

Tell me about your favorite wedding last season.

We are a brand new venue! So, we just opened for our first weddings at the beginning of June. So far, we’ve had some fun and gorgeous weddings that have each showcased the venue in their own way.

How far out should a bride pay a deposit to secure your venue for her wedding day?

Typically, we are booking around 1 to 1.5 years out. Because we are a relatively young venue, we do have some availability throughout some of the earlier months in 2019 as well.

What is included when a couple books your venue for their wedding?

When a couple books the venue at The Historic Wakefield Barn, we try to make it a stress-free experience and include as much as possible. Tables, chairs, and tableware are all included. We do have in-house catering and planning teams as well, to make the process streamlined and easy for the couple!

How do you help couples customize their wedding?

Because we have an in-house planning team, Southern Oak Events, we know the space well and are able to offer spectacular ideas about how to use the space. We love to see couples go outside of the box and to use the venue as a part of their wedding, not just as a location.

What’s one interesting fact about The Historic Wakefield Barn?

We’ve kept as much of the property as possible original for guests and couples to enjoy. The cocktail hour or rehearsal dinner space, downstairs, are the original stables that have been repurposed. The wood floors upstairs in the reception hall are original (over 100 years old!). The bride and groom suites are in the original maternity barn. We also have some horses on the property who love our couples!

What do you have planned for the future?

Since we’re such a young venue, we have a lot of fun plans for the future. We will be expanding our landscaping and outdoor features (can you say fire pit!?) and will be improving our bridal and groom suites.

How many guests can you accommodate?

We can accommodate approximately 280 for a seated dinner.

What makes us unique is that we aren’t just a wedding venue, but we’re an entire experience. With our top-notch catering staff, the planning team and beautiful property, we can offer couples the opportunity to customize their perfect day.
